“Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is a Set of rules, the structured language of symbols and definitions that allow the geometrical features of mechanical parts to be defined according to functional limits of imperfection.”
When do Tolerances become important
Assemblies: Parts will often not fit together if their dimensions do not fall within a certain range of values.
Interchangeability: If a replacement part is used, it must be a duplicate of the original part within certain limits of deviation. • The relationship between functionality and size or shape of an object varies from part to part.

Why Use Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)?

GD&T: An International Language
Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is an international language or instructions used for machine or part drawings to accurately describe a part.
GD&T consists, set of symbols, rules, definitions, and conventions that can be used to describe the size, form, orientation, and location tolerances of part features.
It is a standard Language that enables designers to understand a drawing & “what it Means”, Which helps in improvement & Production of a design. Due to the international standard it GD&T Language provide helps to achieve uniformity in drawing and interpretation.
